Carlie Combs' (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) match-high 15 kills led three Missouri S&T women's volleyball players in double-digit kills as the Miners picked up a key road win in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action this Friday (Oct. 19) night by sweeping past Southern Indiana, 3-0 (29-27, 25-18, 25-13) at USI's Physical Activities Center.
Combs, who finished the match with a .289 hitting percentage, was joined in double figures by junior outside hitter
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) and sophomore right-side hitter
Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) with 10 kills apiece. Gannaway turned in a productive night by hitting for a .304 percentage while senior middle hitter
Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) was highly efficient with a .455 attack percentage on six kills in 11 hitting attempts.
Missouri S&T, which improves to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in the GLVC, concluded the three-set match with a .265 hitting percentage and totaled 45 kills while the Miners limited the Screaming Eagles to only 20 kills and a -.010 percentage in their offensive attacks. Redshirt sophomore setter
Sarah McGinnis (Middleton, Wis./Edgewood) directed the S&T offense and garnered 31 assists. Sophomore setter
Aubrey Sowers came in to post 10 assists.
The Miners controlled play at the net with 11 total team blocks as freshman middle hitter
Kiernan O'Boyle (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) paved the way with seven block assists and a block solo.
Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) contributed five block assists and
Carson Talley (St. Louis, Mo./Affton) provided three assisted blocks. In digs, junior defensive specialist-libero
Corrine Stulce's 13 was tops for S&T.
Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) added 11 digs as the Miners would claim a 54-42 advantage. For Southern Indiana, which drops to 10-14 overall and 2-11 in the GLVC, Haley Limper's match-leading 16 digs was one of the few brights spots for the Screaming Eagles.
Set 1: S&T 29 – USI 27
The Miners tallied five unanswered points to overcome a four-point deficit and claim a 23-22 lead. The opening set would be tied five more times until S&T broke the deadlock once and for all. A

Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) followed with a kill before Combs put the set away with her fifth kill of the first frame. Both teams struggled in hitting effiency as the Miners posted a .102 percentage while Southern Indiana hit at a -.045 clip.
Set 2: S&T 25 – USI 18
S&T stepped its offensive game up in set two as the Miners registered their match-best .441 attack percentage with 18 kills in 34 attempts. The set, which included six ties and a pair of lead changes in the early going, saw S&T go up by seven points at 20-13 thanks to a 7-3 scoring run. The Screaming Eagles pulled to within six points (23-17), but the Miners tallied two of the set's final three points to take the win.

Set 3: S&T 25 – USI 13
The match's third set saw the Miners tally six consecutive points to snap an 11-all tie and take a 17-11 lead. S&T then scored three of the next five points to make it 20-13 before reeling off five straight to end the set. The Miners would post a .333 hitting percentage thanks to 13 kills in the third set while USI hit for an even .000 with six kills and attack errors apiece.
