Miners shut out on Senior Day by Prairie Stars

ROLLA, Mo. – After being involved in a tight battle for much of the afternoon with Illinois Springfield, the Prairie Stars broke free from the Missouri S&T's men's soccer team in the final seven minutes and took a 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference decision over S&T at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.

The Miners (3-10, 3-7 GLVC) trailed 1-0 at halftime as the only goal was scored on a penalty kick by Rhys Wallace in the 27th minute of action.  The visiting Prairie Stars (7-4-3, 6-2-2 GLVC) outshot the Miners 7-5 over the first 45 minutes of action.

UIS had a couple of chances to extend the lead over the first 10 minutes of the second half, but Daniel Kemp hit the post on the near side and Alex Morias had a direct free kick chance from outside the box sail over the goal.  The Miners' best chance in the second half came when Joe Mueller (Cottleville, MO/Francis Howell Central HS) shot a ball in from about 25 yards away that was stopped by goalkeeper Pijus Petkevicius.

The Prairie Stars added some cushion to their lead with two goals in a span of 1:18, the first coming from Morais in the 84th minute and the other from Quentin Reese on a shot from the top of the box.

Nick Posey (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville) made three saves in goal for the Miners in a game where UIS outshot S&T 19-7 and had a 6-3 advantage in shots on net.

Missouri S&T will close its 2018 season with three road contests, beginning with Friday's 7:30 p.m. contest against Lewis in Romeoville, Ill.
