Final Results
ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team had a dominant performance Friday in its final competition before the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, winning a dual meet over Truman State by 138.5-65.5 at the S&T Pool.
Competing at home for the final time this season, the 17
th-ranked Miners had a first place finish in each of the 11 events – which included a tie for first in one – in their final tune-up before the conference meet that begins in just over two weeks.
S&T's individual first place finishes came from
Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:28.43 and in the 500-freestyle in 4:39.08,
Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.14,
Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) in the 50-freestyle in 20.80 seconds and
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) in the 200-yard individual medley prior to the first break in 1:54.41.
Following the early break,
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) won the 100-yard freestyle in 46.35 seconds, as did
Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North) in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:55.21 and
Noah Baden (Rose Hill, KS/Rose Hill) in the 200-breaststroke in 2:11.27, while
Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) finished in a tie with Truman's Will Shanel for first in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Miners also won both relays Friday, with the 400-yard medley relay team of
Ethan Shih (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista), Josh Umrysh, Taske and Nielsen winning that race in 3:26.72 and the 400-freestyle relay quartet of Nielsen, McPherson,
Colten Becker (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley Northwest) and Meyer taking first in 3:09.10.
Dachroeden had a second place showing in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.56, as did Meyer in the 50-freestyle in 21.16 seconds,
Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor) in the 200-IM in 1:59.12,
Dylan Friesz (Round Rock, TX/Hutto) in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.35 and Umrysh in the 200-breaststroke in a time of 2:11.44.
S&T had a second place finish in the 400-medley relay as well with its team of
Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor),
Max Middendorf (Hudsonville, MI/Hudsonville), Becker and Betts posting a time of 3:30.98
Third place finishes were posted by
Alex Graham (Parker, TX/Homeschooled) in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:01.56, Shih in the 200-butterfly in 1:57.28, Betts in the 100-freestyle in 47.45 seconds, McPherson in the 500-freestyle in 4:48.55 and Alex Chavez with his time of 2:12.80 in the 200-breaststroke.
The GLVC Championships begin Feb. 7 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
