Memphis, Tenn. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped its season opener to Christian Brothers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.
Liz Carrano (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) stopped 12 of 14 shots in her S&T debut.
The Lady Miners (0-1) jumped on the board first scoring in the 12
th minute.
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) got on the end of a long throw-in from
Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) and hit a chip shot over the keeper's head from about 20 yards out.. The Buccaneers (1-1) tied the game nearly 10 minutes later on a goal by Bailey Tadlock.
Madison Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Edison) attempted to give S&T the lead back more than two minutes later but was denied by Autumn Woods. Morris tried again to put the Lady Miners in front in the 38
th minute but was turned away by Woods again.
The game remained tied until the 68
th minute when Ashton White took a pass from Tadlock and shot it just outside the penalty area from the left wing across the goal and inside the back post.
Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) attempted to tie the game in the 87
th minute on a shot from deep that was handled by Woods. S&T had a couple of opportunities late in the game but were unable to put anything on goal.
The Lady Miners open the home portion of their 2017 schedule this Friday hosting Indianapolis at 5 p.m.
