Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a hard fought contest to Truman State 2-1 on Sunday at the S&T Soccer Field.
Taylor Vollmer (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) scored on a penalty kick in the 86
th minute for her second goal of the season.
The game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes. S&T had the game's first good scoring chance in the 49
th minute as
Morgan Sikora (Highland, Ill./Highland) headed a free kick from Vollmer that was deflected wide by Katie Mattingly for corner kick. The Lady Miners had another chance off the corner but
Carli Tastad (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) sent the shot wide right.
The Bulldogs (4-2-2, 4-1-1 GLVC) broke the scoreless tie in the 51
st minute. Hanna Hickey corralled a deflected pass off an S&T defender and found Isabel Kurzban alone behind the defense and she shot it past
Liz Carrano (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township).
Truman added to its lead 0:32 seconds later as Hickey connected with Allison Lockett who beat Carrano for her third goal of the season.
S&T cut the deficit in half with just over four minutes to play as Truman was whistled for a hand ball in the box. Vollmer beat Mattingly on the left side for her second goal in as many contests.
The Bulldogs finished with a 14-10 edge in shots and 5-4 in shots on goal. Sikora, Tastad and Vollmer had two shots apiece.
The Lady Miners (0-8, 0-6 GLVC) return to action next Friday traveling to Liberty, Mo., to take on the Cardinals of William Jewell at 5 p.m.
