Lady Miners battle but fall to 15th ranked Hawks 3-2

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners led the 15th ranked Quincy Hawks 2-1 after 45 minutes but the Hawks scored a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to defeat the Lady Miners 3-2 on Friday evening at the S&T Soccer Field. Quincy came into the match allowing just one goal but S&T doubled it with its two in the first half.

The Hawks (6-0, 4-0 GLVC) jumped on top in the ninth minute on Cassidy Foley's first goal of the season. Foley headed home a cross from Abby Pulliam. The Lady Miners scored the equal nearly 1:30 later when Taylor Vollmer (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) scored on a penalty kick for her first of the season.

The game remained tied until the 44th minute when Carli Tastad (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) headed home a corner kick from Vollmer for her first of the season.

Quincy had an 8-5 advantage on shots in the opening half but S&T had a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Hawks scored the equalizer nearly two minutes into the second half when Alex Severino redirected a corner kick from Natalie Quisenberry past Rylee Hanes (Ladera Ranch, Calif./San Juan Hills) for her third of the season. Quincy struck again 11 minutes later when Katie Heilgenstein tapped in a loose ball in front of the goal for her third tally of the year. Pulliam and Foley were credited with assists on the goal.

The Lady Miners had some chances in the final 30 minutes but were unable to get anything else past Megan Swanson.

The Hawks doubled up S&T on shots in the second half outshooting them 16-7 and half of those were on goal. Quincy finished with a 24-12 advantage in shots for the contest and 10-7 in shots on goal.

The Lady Miners (0-7, 0-5 GLVC) return to the pitch on Sunday hosting Truman State at 12 p.m. at the S&T Soccer Field.
