Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners look to bounce back from a 1-3 weekend beginning on Wednesday when it hosts Drury in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at the S&T Softball Field. After the brief stop at home the Lady Miners (15-22, 7-9 GLVC) will head to St. Louis this Friday and Saturday to take on Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville.
Last weekend, S&T split its doubleheader against William Jewell dropping the opener 3-1 but won the nightcap 10-3. The Lady Miners scored in five of the seven innings and broke open a 2-1 ball game with eight runs over the final three innings.
Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) and
Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ) each hit two-run homers in the contest.
Against Rockhurst the Lady Miners struggled to generate offense as they were held to one run and eight hits in a pair of losses to the GLVC leading Hawks.
Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville) allowed a pair of unearned runs on four hits in the opener.
Drury enters Wednesday's doubleheader with a record of 17-22, 5-11 GLVC and have dropped five of its last six contests. The Panthers were held to just two runs this past weekend against Rockhurst and William Jewell.
Drury has four players hitting over .300 for the season and is led by Kaelie Smith with a .336 average. Smith also leads the team with 27 runs driven in while
Dominique Salinas has hit a team-high three home runs.Jessica Kjeldgaard leads the way in the circle for the Panthers going 9-12 with a 3.21 earned run average. She has tossed 15 complete games with two shutouts and has struck out 63 hitters.
Missouri-St. Louis comes into Friday's game with a mark of 28-12, 10-6 in the GLVC and have won four of their last six contests. The Tritons split a doubleheader with Truman State last Saturday winning the opener 5-3 in eight innings and then fell in the nightcap 9-3. On Sunday, UMSL swept Quincy by scores of 8-3 and 12-2.
Serena Olson leads the Triton offense with a .381 average, 12 home runs and has 47 RBIs. Alex Stupek is hitting .342 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs while Annie Kroeger has hit five home runs. Carley Kingery leads UMSL in the circle with a 15-6 mark and has a 1.53 ERA. She has thrown 19 complete games and tossed three shutouts in 155.2 innings pitched. She has struck out 131 batters and issued only 36 walks.
Maryville enters Friday's doubleheader against Drury with a record of 17-21 and is 7-11 in league play. The Saints went 2-2 last weekend sweeping Quincy 5-2 and 4-2 and then lost to Truman State 2-1 and 4-0.
Samantha Hausl leads the Maryville offense hitting .343 and has driven in 14 runs while Nikki Taylor is hitting .308 with team-highs in home runs (7) and runs batted in (21). Courtney Ferguson is hitting .327 with four home runs and 12 RBIs. Taylor leads the Saints in the circle with a record of 10-9 and a 2.69 ERA. She has thrown 12 complete games this season and has two shutouts in 119.2 innings pitched.
