Softball returns home to begin 10-game homestand this weekend

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Softball team returns home for the start of a 10-game homestand beginning on Saturday afternoon against the Bellarmine Knights at 12 p.m. The homestand continues on Sunday when the Lady Miners (9-16, 1-3 GLVC) hosts the 14th ranked Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana at 12 p.m.

S&T went 2-4 last weekend picking up a split against Lindenwood in its home opener last Friday then opened conference play on Sunday dropping a doubleheader at Indianapolis and then split a doubleheader at Saint Joseph's on Monday.

Shortstop Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) leads the ball club with a .386 batting average and is one of four players hitting over .300 on the season. Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) has upped her average to .354 while Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) is batting .328 with team-highs in home runs (3) and runs batted in (16). With her three hits in game two on Monday, Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ) has raised her average to .316.

Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville) went 2-1 with a 2.21 earned run average in the circle last weekend to improve her record to 5-7 and lowered her ERA to 3.56. She leads the team with 54 strikeouts and has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3-to-1. Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) is 4-8 on the year and has struck out 39 hitters in 73.2 innings pitched.

Bellarmine enters Saturday's contest with a record of 13-15 overall and is 1-3 in the GLVC. The Knights snapped a six-game losing streak rallying for a 7-6 extra inning win over William Jewell at home this past Sunday. Katie Stamper drove in five of the team's seven runs in the victory.

Kelly Ely leads the team with a .351 batting average and has driven in a team-high 17 RBIs. She is one of six players hitting over .300 for Bellarmine this season. Stamper and Erica Knollman lead the team with three home runs apiece.

The Knights have struggled in the circle this season allowing their opponents to hit .335 and have given up 31 home runs on the year. Sabrina Fussenegger leads the staff with a 5-5 record and has an ERA of 4.19 in 23 appearances. She has struck out 46 hitters in 93.2 innings pitched. Alexis Sumner is 4-6 on the season while Marlee Tevis has a mark of 4-4.

Southern Indiana enters play this weekend at 19-5, 2-2 in the GLVC. The Screaming Eagles opened conference play at home this past weekend splitting their doubleheaders against William Jewell and Rockhurst.

Claire Johnson and Haley Hodges lead the club in RBIs with 22 each while Lexi Reese has driven in 21 runs. Marleah Fossett is hitting a team best .435 while Hodges leads the squad in home runs with five.

USI has been dominant in the circle holding its opponents to .218 batting average and its staff has a collective ERA of 1.79. Jennifer Leonhardt leads the staff with a 10-1 mark and has an ERA of 1.46 while Courtney Atkisson is 6-3 with 1.92 earned run average. Leonhardt has struck out 73 batters in 76.2 innings pitched.
