Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball team heads to Wichita Falls, Texas this Saturday and Sunday to take part in the Midwestern State Round Robin hosted by Midwestern State University. The Lady Miners will play four games over the two days.
S&T (0-2) opened its season this past Saturday in Searcy, Ark., dropping a pair of contests to the Harding Lady Bisons. The Lady Miners had a chance to win the opener getting the go-ahead run in scoring position in the sixth inning before falling 7-6. In the nightcap Harding used a couple of big innings to pick up an 11-4 win.
Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) had four hits in the first two games while
Avery English (Carterville, Ill./Carterville),
Jacey Allen (Roanoke, Texas/Byron Nelson),
Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) and
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) had two hits apiece. Allen leads the ball club with four RBIs and hit the lone home run, a three-run shot in game two. Fedorchak and Hamann drove in two runs each.
S&T struggled in the circle giving up 18 runs, 16 earned, in the two ball games last weekend allowing seven walks and recording just four strikeouts. English and
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) got the starts in the first two games.
Newman went 2-4 last weekend at the Southern Arkansas Softball Invitational to begin its season last weekend. The Jets dropped their first four games to begin the year before picking up a pair of wins over Tarleton State and Washburn on Sunday. Newman will take on Southwest Baptist at 5 p.m. on Friday evening in Wichita Falls.
Colorado School of Mines gets its season underway against Midwestern State on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Orediggers will then take on Southwestern Oklahoma State at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and then will play that afternoon against S&T at 2:30 p.m. Colorado School of Mines went 20-24, 17-17 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference last season.
The Bulldogs from SWOSU went 2-4 at the Southeastern (Okla.) Regional Invitational this past weekend. The 'Dogs dropped their first two of the season then picked up splits on each of the last two days of the Invitational. SWOSU plays Midwestern State at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, then takes on Colorado School of Mines at 9:30 am and Southwest Baptist at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Midwestern State went 1-5 at the Southeastern Regional Invitational last weekend dropping its first four games to begin the season. The Mustangs rebounded on Sunday picking up a 9-1 run rule over Texas A&M International before falling to 20
th ranked Central Oklahoma 8-0 in six innings to close out the weekend.
