St. Louis, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners bounced back from a tough 1-0 loss on Saturday morning with a 9-0 run-rule victory in five innings on Saturday afternoon at Weber Field in St. Louis, Mo. S&T (3-4) banged out 11 hits in the victory and was led by
Abby Klein (Kansas City, MO/Staley) and
Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) with three hits each while
Hannah Franceschini (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) added two.
Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) worked around a lead-off double to start the game getting a pair of groundouts and a strike out to end the threat. The Lady Miners got back-to-back infield singles to start the home half of the first. A fly out to right moved Weiss to third and then Klein stole second. Weiss scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch and then Klein scored on a sacrifice fly by
Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville).
S&T added to its lead with three in the second. With runners on second and third and one out
Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to the shortstop and then a throwing error by the catcher allowed
Ashley Rausch (Washington, Iowa/Washington) to score. Two more singles and a throwing error by the shortstop allowed Weiss to score to make it 5-0.
In the third inning,
Olivia Young (Milstadt, Ill./Belleville Township) led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Franceschini's double to left center. Franceschini came around to score on
Lauren King (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt North)'s sacrifice fly to right to make it 7-0.
The Lady Miners capped the scoring with two more in the fourth inning. Weiss led off the inning with a single, then stole second and scored on Klein's ground-rule double to right center. With one out, Klein scored on Young's sacrifice fly to right.
The Blue Tigers (0-6) tried to extend the game in the top of the fifth putting runners at first and second with two outs then
Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) ended the game making a sliding catch robbing Kiley Kerr of a hit and an RBI.
Viets picked up the victory pitching a complete game shutout allowing only two hits and struck out five in the contest to improve to 2-1 on the year.
S&T is back in action at Weber Field on Sunday taking on Maryville at 10 a.m. and then faces Columbia College at 12 p.m.
