Women’s basketball returns home to face Prairie Stars in GLVC opener

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners return home looking to get back on track when it hosts Illinois Springfield in the Great Lakes Valley Conference for both squads on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Billy Key Court. After averaging 80.8 points per game in their first four games the Lady Miners have been held to just 61 per game in their last two outings.

S&T (4-2) leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage knocking down 41.2 percent of its attempts from downtown and is second in the conference in field goal percentage shooting 45.6 percent from the field. The Lady Miners are also tied for third in the conference in rebounding with 39.6 rebounds per contest.

S&T's problem has been on the defensive end the last two games giving up an average of nearly 90 points per game and have allowed its opponents to shoot nearly 49 percent from the field and have given up 29 three-pointers and have turned it over 46 times.

Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) leads the team in scoring and is fifth in the GLVC at 16.7 points per contest. Maddie Raley (Haubstadt, Ind./Gibson Southern) is dropping home 14.8 points per game and is 13th in the conference in scoring while Michelle Borgen (Tinley Park, Illinois/Andrew) is averaging 14.3 points per nigh which is 14th in the GLVC. Kim Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) leads the team and is third in the conference in rebounding grabbing 9.2 rebounds per game.

Illinois Springfield is off to its best start in nearly 20 years with its 5-1 record. The Prairie Stars won their second straight contest on Wednesday defeating Robert Morris-Springfield 106-27 at home. UIS leads the GLVC in scoring with 85.5 points per game, field goal percentage defense holding opponents to 32.4 shooting, rebounding with 48.5 rebounds per game and blocked shots with 8.3 per contest.

The Prairie Stare have four players averaging double figures in scoring led by Shelbi Patterson who is averaging 13.8 points per game. Destiny Ramsey is dropping in 13.2 points per contest, Jasmine Sangster is contributing 11.3 ppg off the bench and Katelyn Rosner is scoring 10 points per game. Ramsey leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game and is one of the leaders nationally in blocked shots with 16.
