ROLLA, Mo. – A dominant second half performance got Missouri S&T into the win column for the first time in the 2017-18 season Saturday afternoon, as the Miners outscored Robert Morris-Peoria 43-26 after the intermission to post a 79-60 win at Billy Key Court.
Leading by just two at halftime, the Miners (1-2) took control in the early stages of the second half with a 13-0 run, capped by consecutive three-pointers from
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) and
Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy). Scott, making his first appearance in the regular season, knocked down a trey with exactly 11 minutes remaining to give S&T a 56-39 lead.
The Miners kept the lead in double figures for the balance of the game – building to as many as 24 points – as they used their size advantage to control the paint in the final 20 minutes.
S&T shot 56.7 percent in the second half and outrebounded the Eagles (0-4) by a 30-15 margin as it got a big game Saturday from
Sebastian Ferenc (Zgierz, Poland/). The junior forward had 15 of his game-high 28 points after the intermission as he recorded his first double-double as a Miner, adding 14 rebounds along the way as S&T outrebounded the Eagles 55-37.
Ferenc, along with
Ervin Sarajlic (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) and
Romain Louiserre (La Ferte Alais, France/Fredrick Fays), combined for more rebounds than the Eagles had as a team, as the latter two pulled down 12 rebounds apiece.
The Miners also got 18 points from
Chris Harris (Antioch, IL/Lake Forest Academy) and 11 from Scott as they finished the contest at 46.3 percent from the field.
RMU-Peoria was led by Justin Robinson with 18 points, all on three-point baskets.
The Miners return to action Wednesday with an exhibition game against Bradley in Peoria, Ill., beginning at 7 p.m. That game will precede the Miners' trip to California over Thanksgiving weekend, where S&T will face California Baptist and Academy of Art at the CBU Thanksgiving Classic.
