S&T’s three match win streak snapped at Missouri-St. Louis

St. Louis, Mo. – Missouri S&T's volleyball team had its three match winning streak snapped in a three set loss at Missouri-St. Louis on Friday evening. Payton Gannaway (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence Free State) led the Miners with 10 kills.

S&T held a pair of leads early in the opening set but were unable to slow down the Triton (15-6, 5-5 GLVC) attack as they hit .277 in the opening frame. The Miners trailed by as many as seven late in the frame but used a late run to cut the deficit to 24-23 after an ace from Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside). After a timeout by UMSL they would win the set on an error from White.

S&T struck first again in the second set and were tied at 10 when the Tritons went on an 8-3 run to take control of the frame. The Miners closed the deficit to 20-15 after a block from Emilee Schlader (Lewiston, Idaho/Lewiston) and Ellen Schulz (Wildwood, Mo./Eureka) but UMSL went on to score five of the final six points to win 25-16 and take the commanding 2-0 lead.

S&T struggled to get its offense going in the third set committing 13 errors in the stanza and hit a negative .079 while the Tritons hit .290 in the set and pulled away for a 25-13 win.

Gannaway was the lone Miner in double figures while Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) and Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) had seven kills each. White finished with 21 assists and Combs had 18 digs.
