Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners picked up its first win of the season defeating the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Rolla. The Lady Miners (1-11-1, 1-9-1) took a two goal lead but had to hold on in the final minutes to secure the win.
S&T got on the board first in the 18
th minute.
Chayse Richardson (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville) sent a long throw-in into the box that hit off the back of an UMSL (4-7-3, 3-7-2 GLVC) defender and went into the goal for an own goal. The Lady Miners nearly had another goal a couple of minutes but was waved off due to a foul.
S&T extended its lead in the 67
th minute scoring off a corner kick. Richardson served the ball in front of the goal and a Triton defender tried to clear but it bounced right to
Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) who knocked it in from about six yards out.
UMSL got one of those goals back with 10:55 left in the game when Emily Mosier headed home a free kick from Jordyn White right in front of the goal. The Tritons nearly tied it in the 84
th minute when a long distance shot from Taylor Andert banged off the crossbar.
The Lady Miners were outshot in the contest 7-6 but both sides had five shots on goal. S&T also had the edge in corner kicks 5-4.
The Lady Miners begin their final road trip of the season on Friday at McKendree beginning at 5 p.m.
