Lady Miners drop 2-0 decision at Quincy

Quincy, Ill. – A pair of second half goals sent Missouri S&T to a 2-0 defeat at Quincy on Friday evening in Quincy, Ill. Karen Nightingale (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) stopped six shots in goal for the Lady Miners.

The Lady Hawks (2-3-2, 2-2-1 GLVC) controlled play for the first 45 minutes outshooting S&T (1-4, 1-3 GLVC) 9-1 but thanks to the play of Nightingale, who made three saves in the half, the defense was able to keep Quincy off the scoreboard.

The Lady Miners had a chance late in the opening frame but Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley )'s attempt was saved by Megan Swanson with two minutes to play in the half.

S&T had the first good chance of the second half but Mikaela Mockenhaupt (Oswego, Ill./Oswego) was turned away by Swanson less than three minutes into the period. The Lady Hawks broke the scoreless tie less than a minute later capitalizing on a corner kick. Mo Rooney took a touch and played it to Cassidy Foley who put into the upper left corner for her first goal of the season.

Mockenhaupt had a chance at the equalizer 10 minutes later but Swanson made a diving save to keep the ball out of the net. Quincy kept the pressure on but Nightingale continued to turn shots away. The Lady Hawks tacked on an insurance goal with
1:14 left when Katie Heiligenstein headed home a free kick from Foley.

Quincy finished the contest outshooting the Lady Miners 19-6, 8-4 in shots on goal and had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Mockenhaupt took two of S&T's four shots on goal.

The Lady Miners conclude their four match road trip on Sunday at Truman State at 12 p.m.
