Softball concludes homestand this weekend hosting Maryville and UMSL

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Softball squad concludes its 10-game homestand this weekend hosting Maryville University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. and the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. S&T (13-26, 3-15 GLVC) looks to build some momentum after its doubleheader sweep of Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon as it heads into the final three weeks of Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Lady Miners banged out 24 hits in Wednesday's doubleheader raising their team batting average to .273 on the season. Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) continues to lead the offense with her .364 average and 26 runs batted in. Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) is hitting .336 with four doubles and eight RBIs while Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) is hitting .322 with 17 runs driven in. Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) and Hannah Franceschini (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) have driven in 19 runs apiece.

Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) snapped her three-game losing skid with the game one victory over Lincoln to improve to 6-13 on the season with an earned run average of 3.35. She's tossed 15 complete games this season while striking out 55 batters. Ashley Hill (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) is 3-3 on the year with two saves in 17 appearances.

Maryville (28-6, 14-4 GLVC) enters Saturday's contest having one of its best season ever. The Saints have already set a school record for conference wins in a season and are three wins shy of matching the school record of 31 wins which was set in 2000. They've won five straight overall and are on the verge of having their first winning season since 2009.

Maryville is hitting .325 as a team with 53 doubles, 17 home runs and 10 triples. Courtney Ferguson leads the squad with a .390 average while Alex Flasch is hitting .370 and leads the team in home runs and runs batted in with 8 and 37 respectively. Ashley Marks and Krystal Rock have each stolen a team-high nine bases.

In the circle, the Saints have an ERA of 2.20 allowing just 94 runs on the season while holding opponents to a .240 batting average. Wendy Macias is the ace of the staff posting a 15-1 record with a 1.85 ERA. She's tossed two shutouts this year and is averaging close to a strikeout per inning. Nikki Taylor is 12-4 with a 2.11 ERA and has thrown four shutouts.

Missouri-St. Louis enters this weekend's action with a mark of 37-4, 15-3 GLVC. The Tritons will play at Drury on Saturday afternoon before making the trek to Rolla. They're currently sitting in second place in the conference and are two games behind Indianapolis for the top spot in the league.

UMSL is hitting .316 on the season and is averaging over 5.5 runs per game. It's hit 66 doubles, eight triples and 43 home runs on the season. Erin Walker leads the club with a .380 average while Sara Kern leads the squad in home runs (10) and RBIs (36). Alex Stupek has hit nine home runs and driven in 34 runs.

The Tritons have pitched it well too this season with a team ERA of 1.04 and 20 shutouts. Hannah Perryman has thrown a majority of the games going 32-2 with a 0.92 ERA in nearly 230 innings pitched. She has struck out 385 batters and is averaging nearly 12 strikeouts per seven innings pitched. Perryman has tossed 18 shutouts this year and opponents are hitting just .136 off of her. Carley Kingery is 5-2 on the year with a 1.25 ERA in 39.1 innings pitched.
