S&T snaps skid with sweep of Lincoln

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped a four-game skid sweeping Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon 15-4 in five innings and then held on to win the nightcap 7-6 at the S&T Softball Field. S&T (13-26) pounded out 24 hits in the doubleheader and was led by Hannah Franceschini (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) with five hits, Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) added four hits, Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ), Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East), Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) and Morgan Imhoff (Jamestown, Mo./Jamestown) had three hits each.

Game 1 – Lady Miners 15 Lincoln 4 five innings
The Lady Miners scored five runs with three of those coming with two outs. Slemp and Imhoff hit run scoring doubles in the inning. The Blue Tigers (4-37) got a run back in the second as Avery Myers scored on a wild pitch after leading off the inning with a double.

Lincoln cut the S&T lead to 5-3 with single runs in the third and fourth innings. In the third Lauren Stamp singled off of Weiss's glove at third into left field for an RBI single then in the fourth inning Macie Kinsey led off the frame with home run to left center.

The Lady Miners busted the game open in the home half of the fourth sending 15 batters to the plate and scoring 10 runs on seven hits and an error. Baker hit a two-run homer to left and Franceschini capped the scoring with a 2-run double to left center.

The Blue Tigers added another run in the fifth on a solo home run from Spencer Silva.

S&T had 15 hits in the opener with Franceschini registering four of them. Weiss, Slemp, Baker and Davis had two hits each. Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) picked up the victory allowing four runs on 10 hits with two walks and three strikeouts in five innings.

Game 2- Lady Miners 7 Lincoln 6
In the nightcap the Lady Miners broke on top with three runs in the home half of the second. With one out, Davis reached on a bunt single to third, stole second and scored on Imhoff's single up the middle. Miranda Thompson (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) followed with a single up the middle and Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North) was hit by a pitch. After a groundout, Slemp and Baker worked back-to-back walks plating two more runs.

Lincoln tied the game in the top of the third with Tori Nienhueser driving in two runs with a double to left center. A single and a walk loaded the bases with two outs but Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) was able to get out of the inning by throwing out Myers at first to end the inning.

S&T regained the lead in the bottom of the third. Once again it was Davis starting the rally. She singled with one out, advanced to second on a groundout, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Miners added two more runs in the fifth as Fedorchak led off the inning with a walk. Rachel Aiardo (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) came into run for Fedorchak and scored on Franceschini's double to right center. After a walk to Davis, Imhoff drove in Franceschini with single up the middle making it 6-3. S&T had a chance to add to its lead with runners at second and third and one out but couldn't get the key hit.

The Blue Tigers got a run back in the sixth starting the inning with three straight hits. Kinsey led off with a single and advanced to third on Sarah Westhoff's double. Myers followed with a single up the middle scoring Kinsey. Lincoln had the tying runs on the corner with no out but Ashley Hill (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) got the next three hitters to escape the jam.

The Lady Miners tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Slemp and Baker led off the inning with back-to-back bloop singles. A groundout to second moved both runners up and Slemp scored when Franceschini's line drive was dropped by the second baseman.

That run proved to be beneficial as the Blue Tigers scored twice in the seventh on Kinsey's two-run homer to left center with two outs. Hills was able to preserve the win getting Westhoff to groundout to second ending the game.

S&T had nine hits in the nightcap led by Davis and Imhoff with two each. Imhoff also had two of the five runs batted in. Jackson went the first five innings allowing three runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts to pick up her third win of the season. Hill went the final two innings allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and a strikeout to earn her second save of the season.

The Lady Miners return to the diamond on Saturday hosting Maryville University in a GLVC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
