S&T drops two at Illinois Springfield

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T softball squad dropped its doubleheader at Illinois Springfield 8-0 in five innings and 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex in Springfield, Ill. Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) and Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) combined for four hits in the doubleheader.

Game 1 – Illinois Springfield 8 Lady Miners 0 five innings
The Lady Miners (13-32, 3-21 GLVC) had an opportunity to jump out to an early lead in the opener with two on and two out in the first inning but couldn't get the two-out hit.

UIS (20-24, 10-14 GLVC) sent 12 batters to the plate in the home half of the second scoring all eight of its runs in that frame on four hits and an error. The Prairie Stars hit two home runs in the inning as Molly Manietta led off the inning with a home run down the left field line and Brittany Miller hit a grand slam to left to make it 7-0. Manietta added an RBI double to left center capping the scoring.

S&T was outhit in the opener 6-2 with Fedorchak registering both hits. Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) took the loss allowing eight runs, seven earned, on three hits with two strikeouts. Ashley Hill (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) went the final 2.2 innings allowing three hits and struck out three.

Game 2 – Illinois Springfield 1 Lady Miners 0
The only run in game two was scored in the second inning on a bases loaded walk to Rachel Goff plating Amanda Gosbeth. The Lady Miners had a chance to tie the game in the third putting runners at first and second with one out but once again couldn't get a hit with a runner in scoring position.

S&T outhit Illinois Springfield 3-2 in the second game with Weiss and Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) contributing the hits. Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) was the tough luck loser allowing the one run on two hits in the complete game effort.

The Lady Miners conclude their road trip on Sunday with a doubleheader at McKendree University beginning at 12 p.m.
