Softball concludes road trip on Tuesday; returns home this weekend

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T softball squad concludes its eight-game roadtrip traveling to Drury on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. at Meador Park. The Lady Miners return home this weekend kicking off a two-week homestand on Saturday against Rockhurst at 12 p.m.

S&T (10-21, 3-10 GLVC) has split the first six games of its roadtrip sweeping a doubleheader last Wednesday at Lincoln, dropping two at Truman State on Friday and then split a doubleheader this past Saturday at Quincy.

Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) continues to lead the Lady Miners at the dish as her average has risen to .387 and also leads the squad with 22 runs batted in. Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) is having a career-year at the plate so far hitting .373 with 16 RBIS while Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) is hitting .356 with a team-high seven stolen bases.

Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) is coming off her best performance of the season in the circle picking up a complete game shutout at Quincy in game one on Saturday. In five of her last six appearances she's allowed two earned runs or less five times and is 3-2 in those starts. She's improved her record to 5-10 with an earned run average of 3.66 in 17 appearances this season.

Drury enters Tuesday's contest with a record of 9-21 and is 3-9 in GLVC play after dropping three of four last weekend. The Panthers started the weekend with a 3-0 win at Quincy last Friday before dropping the final three games.

Runs have been hard to come by for the offense as they're averaging less than three runs per game and are hitting .247 as a team. Kaelie Smith leads the offense with a .337 average, home runs (3) and has driven in 20 runs. Kari Hillenburg is the only other player hitting above .300 with a .315 average and has 10 RBis.

In the circle the Drury pitchers have a team ERA of 3.91 and have allowed 20 home runs in over 200 innings pitched. Shelby Weissenbach is the leader in the circle with a record of 6-11 and a 3.55 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched. Jessica Kjeldgaard is 2-10 on the year with a 4.09 ERA and has two saves.

Rockhurst enters Tuesday's doubleheader at William Jewell with a mark of 10-20 and is 3-9 in conference action. The Hawks have lost nine of their last 12 overall and dropped three of four this past weekend at Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis.

Rockhurst is hitting .236 as a team and is averaging just 2.7 runs per contest. Hannah Pyle is the lone Hawk hitting over .300 at .389 with two home runs and nine RBIs. Madison Wagner has a team-high 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts.

Bridgette Sappington has appeared in a team-high 21 games and is 6-10 with a 3.85 ERA. She has tossed 15 complete games and has struck out 69 hitters in 117 innings pitched. Shannon Greene is 4-10 on the year with a 5.55 ERA in 16 appearances.

On Sunday the Lady Miners welcome William Jewell to Rolla for a 12 p.m. doubleheader at the S&T Softball Field. The Cardinals are 11-17 on the year, 3-9 in GLVC action and have dropped four straight.

Jewell is hitting .272 as a team and has hit 21 home runs on the year. It's got five players with three or more home runs led by Shelby McGraw with four while Brooke Bernard has hit three and driven in a team best 26 runs and leads the offense with a .438 average.

McGraw leads the way in the circle for the Cardinals appearing in 22 games with a record of 7-9 with a save to go along with a 3.67 ERA. She's tossed 10 complete games with one shutout in 108 innings pitched.
