Lady Miners trounce Blue Tigers

Jefferson City, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners stepped out of a conference play for a non-conference doubleheader against the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Tuesday afternoon at Duensing Field in Jefferson City, Mo. S&T (9-18) run-ruled the Blue Tigers (2-29) in the opener 20-2 in five innings and took the nightcap 12-3 in five innings.

Game 1 – Lady Miners 20 Lincoln 2
The Lady Miners sent 15 batters to the plate in the top of the first scoring 12 runs on seven hits and an error to blow it open early. S&T loaded the bases to start the game and scored the first two runs on an error by the second baseman. Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) followed with a sacrifice fly to left to make it 3-0. With the bases loaded again, Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.

Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ) and Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) hit back-to-back two-run doubles pushing the score to 8-0. With two outs, Fedorchak hit a ground-rule double to center scoring Davis and Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) to make it 10-0. Baker followed that up with a two-run homer to left center to cap the scoring.

The Lady Miners added to their lead in the top of the second. With one out, Viets singled to right center and scored from first on Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland )'s double to center. Davis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Weiss scored on Slemp's infield single to short.

S&T scored four more in the third and added one in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Carley Hamann (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way North).

The Lady Miners set school records for runs scored in an inning with 12 and runs scored in a game with 20. They tied the school record for doubles in a game with six and Weiss tied a school record with her three doubles in the contest.

S&T had 17 hits in the game which was one shy of tying a school record. Weiss had four hits in the contest to lead the way while Badalamenti added three. Slemp, Baker and Kelly Heckemyer had two hits each.

Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) pitched the first two innings allowing no runs on two hits with a strikeout and Ashley Rausch (Washington, Iowa/Washington) went the final three innings allowing two runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts against two walks to earn her first collegiate win.

Game 2 – Lady Miners 12 Lincoln 3
The Lady Miners jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap scoring a pair of runs in the first. Weiss led off the game with a bunt single, stole second and scored on Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara )'s double to left center. After a foul out, Fedorchak drove in the second run with a single down the right field line to score Davis.

S&T added to its lead in the second on back-to-back two out doubles from Victoria Culbertson (Nevada, Mo./Nevada) and Weiss to make it 3-0. The Lady Miners added a couple of unearned runs in the fourth inning as Badalamenti and Weiss scored on a wild pitch and throwing error by the catcher to make it 5-0.

The Blue Tigers cut into the S&T lead in the home half of the fourth scoring three unearned runs. Spencer Silva hit a ground-rule double to left center to plate two runs and Lauren Stamp followed with a bloop single to center to score Silva.

The Lady Miners sent 12 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth scoring seven runs on six hits to extend their lead. Slemp and Baker had two-run singles while Heckemeyer and Weiss each had run scoring singles. Davis added an RBI on a fielder's choice.

S&T banged out 12 hits in the nightcap led by Weiss and Fedorchak with three apiece. Six other players had a hit. Weiss, Davis, Slemp and Baker had two runs batted in each. Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) got the win allowing three runs, none earned, on six hits with four strikeouts against one walk to earn her second win of the season.

The Lady Miners return to GLVC play on Friday when it travels to Kirksville to take on Truman State in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
