Softball opens homestand on Wednesday against Southwest Baptist

Rolla, Mo. - The Missouri S&T softball squad kicks off a six-game homestand against Southwest Baptist on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The homestand continues on Saturday when S&T welcomes the University of Indianapolis for a noon start and concludes on Sunday against Saint Joseph's College at 12 p.m.

The Lady Miners (4-15) look to bounce back after dropping four in a row last weekend when it hosts Southwest Baptist in a non-conference affair on Wednesday. S&T dropped a couple of tight ball games last Friday against Bellarmine and had the tying run in scoring position in both games but couldn't get the key hit. Last Saturday against Southern Indiana, the Lady Miners struggled to contain the Screaming Eagle offense in a pair of losses.

Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) continues to lead the S&T attack hitting .375 while Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) has driven in a team-high 12 runs and is hitting .350 with five doubles and a home run. In the circle, Kati Viets (Sweet Springs, Mo./Sweet Springs) leads the way with a six complete games on the season.

Southwest Baptist is 12-16 on the season and will play a doubleheader at Central Methodist on Tuesday afternoon. The Bearcats are hitting .256 as a team and are led by Rachel Ray who's hitting .400 on the season. Dana Graves leads the squad with 19 runs batted in and has seven doubles and three home runs. In the circle, Kacey Ayers is 9-8 with a 2.70 ERA in 20 appearances. She has tossed 14 complete games and has three saves to her credit.

Indianapolis enters play this week riding a 17-game winning streak to start the year and have climbed to second in the latest NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Greyhounds are on the road playing double headers against Walsh and Slippery Rock on Tuesday and Wednesday before heading down to Rolla.

The 'Hounds have four players hitting over .400 led by Natalie Lalich at .490. Lalich also leads the team with seven home runs and has driven in 30 RBIs. She has accounted for over half of the team's home runs this year. Erika Goodwin has driven in 14 runs while Jenny Thompson has 11 runs batted in. Morgan Foley is once again dominating in the circle going 12-0 with a 1.27 ERA in 12 appearances with seven complete games and two shutouts. She has struck out 131 batters and issued only 22 walks in 71 innings pitched.

Saint Joseph's is 6-17 on the season but has won three of its last four opening conference play last weekend with a sweep of William Jewell and split a doubleheader with Rockhurst at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. The Pumas are scheduled to play at Drury on Saturday afternoon before heading to Rolla.

Saint Joseph's is hitting only .235 as a team with Haley Miller as the lone Puma hitting over .300. She's tied for the team lead with three doubles and is second on the club with 13 RBIs. Ashley Whittaker has driven in a team-high 14 runs and accounted for half of the team's home runs. Saint Joseph's has had six different pitchers appear in the circle with Morgan Masters leading the way with a team-high 14 appearances. She and Briana Wagner have each tossed two complete games.
