Lady Miners fall to Upper Iowa 8-0

Rosemont, Ill. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped its second game on Saturday against Upper Iowa 8-0 at the Dome at the Ballpark in Rosemont, Ill. S&T (2-10) was held in check offensively with just five hits in the contest.

The game was scoreless until Jacqueline Flood hit a solo home run to left center with two out in the top of the third. The Peacocks (5-7) added three more in the fourth on an RBI single from Lauren Marlinghaus and a RBI double from Katie Sammons. A third run scored on a fielder's choice as the Lady Miners gunned down the runner at the plate for the second out of the inning but Riley Kruel advanced to second on the play and Sammy Garrett scored on the throw to second.

UIU added two more in the fifth on anther RBI from Marlinghaus and an RBI double by Sammons. The Peacocks scored their final two runs in the seventh on an RBI single from Tara Duran and Sammons third RBI of the game.

S&T couldn't figure out Flood as she shut the offense down on just the five hits. She didn't walk anyone and struck out four in the complete game shutout.

Flood, Duran and Sammons combined for 10 of Upper Iowa's 15 hits in the contest.

Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) had two hits for the Lady Miners while Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East), Morgan Imhoff (Jamestown, Mo./Jamestown) and Monica Weiss (St. Louis, Mo./Marquette ) had a hit apiece. Courtney Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) took the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits in four innings of work. She struck out six and issued one base on balls. Ashley Hill (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) pitched the final three innings allowing four runs on eight hits with a strikeout.

S&T concludes play at the Lewis Flyer Dome Invitational against the Ashland Eagles on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
