Springfield, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped its season finale at 11
th ranked Drury
95-57 on Thursday night at the O'Reilly Family Events Center in Springfield, Mo.
Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled),
Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) and
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) combined to score 49 points and accounted for 17 of the team's 20 field goals made.
S&T (8-17, 4-14 GLVC) got off to slow start in the first five minutes making just 1-of-7 field goal attempts and turned the ball over four times. The Lady Panthers (23-3, 16-2 GLVC) took advantage scoring the first 10 points and 16 of the first 18 of the contest.
The Lady Miners got a spark off the bench from Bland and Douvier as they combined to score 11 of S&T's final 12 points of the opening frame. The Lady Miners cut the lead to nine late in the quarter thanks to a jumper by Bland but a foul right before the end of the quarter sent Adrienne Horn to the foul line where she made 1-of-2.
After their slow start they made five of their final nine shots of the quarter but Drury hit 4-of-7 from the three-point line to take a 10-point lead into the quarter break.
The Lady Panthers extended their lead to 39-18 opening the second stanza on a 15-4 run behind seven points from Annie Armstrong. S&T cut the lead to 17 after two Pierce foul shots with 4:20 left in the half, but Drury scored 11 of the final 16 points of the stanza including back-to-back three's from Armstrong in the closing seconds of the frame. The later was a buzzer beater giving the Lady Panthers a 50-27 lead at the break.
The Lady Miners made only 10-of-29 (34.5 percent) shots in the first two quarters, but allowed Drury to shoot 49 percent (17-for-35) from the floor and 10 of those baskets were three-pointers.
Bland led S&T with 12 points while Douvier had seven and Pierce added five.
Armstrong scored all 13 of her points in the second quarter to lead all scorers with Brook Duncan adding 11.
The Lady Panthers continued their hot shooting to start the third quarter knocking down 6 of their first 10 shots building a 61-30 lead with 7:13 left in the quarter. The Lady Miners continued to struggle making shots making just five of 16 attempts in the frame.
Drury led by as many as 39 in the contest after a three-pointer by Briana Jones with 1:00 left to play in the contest.
Bland and Pierce finished with 17 points each to lead S&T while Douvier finished with 15, one shy of her career-high. The Lady Miners finished the game shooting 35 percent (20-for-57) from the field, 2-of-10 from three and made just 58 percent of their attempts at the foul line.
The Lady Panthers had five players reach double figures in scoring led by Duncan with 21. Armstrong added 19, Horn had 13, Alice Heinzler dropped in 11 and Heather Harman finished with 10. Drury finished the game shooting 54 percent (35-of-65) from the floor, hit 13 three-pointers in the contest and outrebounded S&T 39-27.
