Miners roll to victory over Eagles

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T made short work of visiting Robert Morris-Peoria Wednesday night, running out to a big lead early in the contest and cruising to a 103-49 victory to close out its three-game homestand.

The Miners, who improved to 7-1 on the season with the win, scored the first 12 points of the game and built a 21-point lead after nine minutes had been played.  S&T shot 57.9 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes and didn't allow the Eagles (1-7) to reach double figures on the scoreboard until 6:25 remained in the half.

Missouri S&T led by as many as 39 points in the opening half and its largest lead was the final margin of 54, as it shot 50.6 percent for the game and made 13 of its 30 three-point attempts in the contest.

Every Miner who saw action in the game scored, led by Jalen Myers (Shorewood, IL/Minooka) with 21 points.  He was among four Miners in double figures, as Telloy Simon (Kitchener, Ont./St. Mary's) added 14 points, Dulan Scott (Chicago, IL/Farragut Academy) 12 and Quinn Poythress (Jackson, Mo./Notre Dame Regional) 11.

S&T also outrebounded the Eagles by a 60-30 margin and forced 22 turnovers in the game.

RMU-Peoria was led by Markus Johnson with 23 points and 10 rebounds; the Eagles made just 24.6 percent of their shots from the floor and only three-of-26 from three-point range.

Missouri S&T returns to Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday when it takes on 12th-ranked Drury in a 3 p.m. game in Springfield, Mo., in the Miners' last game before the semester break.
