Springfield, Ill. – For the second straight year the Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a 1-0 decision to Illinois Springfield. The Prairie Stars defeated the Lady Miners in Rolla last season. UIS (7-6, 4-6 GLVC) outshot S&T (2-8, 2-7 GLVC) 12-7 and 7-5 in shots on goal.
The Prairie Stars controlled play for most of the first half and held a 7-1 edge in shots in the first 36:30 of the contest. Late in the first half the Lady Miners put three shots on goal in the span of 0:50 put were unable to get any of those shots past Courtney Johnson.
Illinois Springfield broke the scoreless draw in the 74
th minute on Madisyn Coudriet's first goal of the season off an assist from Taylor Mraz.
Riley Cronin (Albuquerque, N. M./Sandia Prep) tried to answer for S&T shortly after the goal but Johnson was able to make the save. The Lady Miners had another chance at an equalizer with less than three minutes to play but
Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) was denied by Johnson.
Karen Nightingale (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) stopped six of the seven shots she faced in goal for S&T.
The Lady Miners are back at home on Friday night hosting Bellarmine in a 5 pm contest at the S&T Soccer Field.
