Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T women's soccer team was tied 1-1 with 22
nd ranked Bellarmine with less than 10 minutes to go in regulation but gave up two goals in a span of less than a minute to hand the Lady Miners a 3-1 defeat on Friday evening at Allgood-Bailey Stadium.
The Knights (10-1-2, 8-1-2 GLVC) got an early goal from Mary Beth Gorham 6:09 into the contest. Gorham hit a low line drive from 25 yards just to the right of
Karen Nightingale (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) inside the right post for her sixth goal of the season. S&T (2-9, 2-8 GLVC) had a couple of chances to tie the game but were denied until
Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) chipped one over the goalkeeper from 20 yards out off a pass from
Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley ) for her fourth of the year.
Bellarmine tried to regain the lead putting three shots on goal in the final five minutes of the first half but
Karen Nightingale (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) made all three saves to keep the game deadlocked at the intermission. The Knights held a 6-4 edge in shots and 5-3 in shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
S&T tried to weather the Bellarmine attack and get the game into overtime when Gorham struck again hitting a shot off the crossbar that fell in for her seventh goal of the year. The Knights added another goal 0:47 when Lauren Holder scored on a shot from the wing from 20 yards out for her third of the season.
The Knights outshot the Lady Miners 11-2 in the second half and finished the game with a 17-6 edge in shots and 9-4 in shots on goal.
S&T is back in action on Sunday afternoon hosting Southern Indiana at 12 p.m.
