Pair of second half goals lift Lady Miners to 3-1 win over Southern Indiana

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners got a pair of goals in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie to defeat Southern Indiana 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the S&T Soccer Field. Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) scored the game winner in the 68th minute and Madison Morris (Tulsa, Okla./Edison) added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute for the Lady Miners (3-9, 3-8 GLVC).

S&T got the game's first goal 10:10 into the contest when Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page) received a pass from Julia Crets (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) and beat the keeper to the left from six yards out for her fifth goal of the season. The Screaming Eagles (8-7, 5-7 GLVC) evened the game 13:10 later when Olivia Wilde won a scramble for a loose ball in the box off a pass from Addie Deppe and put it into an open net for her fifth of the season.

That was the way it remained over the final 20-plus minutes of the first half as the Lady Miners held a 6-5 edge in shots but USI had a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.

S&T had three really good chances in the first 10 minutes of the second half but were unable to put anything on goal. Camery's game winner was set up by Sarah Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) who went down the left side of the field, had the ball tackled away but stayed with it and crossed into the middle of the box where Camery was all alone to redirect into the net for her second of the year.

Morris added to the lead scoring on an unassisted goal with less than 10 minutes to go placing a perfect shot into the upper left corner for her first of the season.

S&T finished with a 10-0 advantage in shots in the second half and put four of those on goal The Lady Miners outshot the Eagles 16-5 for the game and 6-3 in shots on goal. They also had a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

S&T is back in action on Friday traveling to Liberty, Mo., to take on the William Jewell Cardinals beginning at 5 p.m.
