Liberty, Mo. – Kayla Foster (Sand Springs, Okla./Charles Page)'s goal in the 44
th minute proved to be the game-winner in Missouri S&T's 1-0 win at William Jewell on Friday evening in Liberty, Mo. The Lady Miners snapped a 14-game road losing streak in the process, their last road win was a 2-0 win at Bellarmine on Nov. 2, 2014. S&T (4-9, 4-8 GLVC) also snapped a four-game road scoreless drought.
The Cardinals (3-10-2, 3-9-1 GLVC) outshot the Miners 5-1 in the first 40 minutes of the contest but neither side was able to get a shot on goal. S&T started to take control in the final five minutes of the half as
Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley ) put a shot on goal in the 42
nd minute and then Foster followed up 2:47 later scoring her team leading sixth goal of the season to give the Lady Miners a 1-0 halftime advantage.
William Jewell had a 5-3 advantage in shots but S&T put two of its three shots on target while Jewell didn't register a shot on goal.
The Lady Miners came out aggressive to start the second half looking for an insurance goal but was unable to get anything else past the Cardinal keeper.
Lauren Tolan (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) had a chance in the 58
th minute that was saved and
Leah Camery (Anchorage, Alaska/Steller Secondary School) had a chance with less than 15 minutes to play but was denied.
Carli Tastad (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) tried to score in the 82
nd minute but was turned away as well.
Each team finished the contest with nine shots but S&T put five shots on goal compared to zero for William Jewell.
Karen Nightingale (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) didn't have to make a save in net and earned her second career shutout in the process.
The Lady Miners play their final home game of the season on Sunday afternoon against 16
th ranked Rockhurst beginning at 12 p.m. at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. S&T will honor its six seniors prior to the start of the contest.
