Miners use six event wins to down Delta State

ROLLA, Mo. – Tim Samuelsen (Stavanger, Norway/St. Svithun VGS) and Jon Glaser (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) captured two events apiece, leading a six-win effort by Missouri S&T's swimming team Friday night as the Miners – ranked ninth by CollegeSwimming.com – defeated 10th-ranked Delta State 125-80 at the S&T Pool.

Samuelsen won both of the distance freestyle races, taking the 1,000-yard event in 9:45.58 and the 500-freestyle in 4:46.38, while Glaser captured the two sprint freestyle events by winning the 50 in 21.37 seconds and the 100 in 45.71.

S&T also got winning efforts from Kevin McPherson (Oakdale, MN/Tartan) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.27 and its 400-yard freestyle relay team of Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset), McPherson, Morgan Meyer (Ruston, LA/Ruston) and Glaser with a time of 3:06.76.

Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) had a pair of second place showings in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.11 and 200-breaststroke in 2:03.25, while seconds also came from Aaron Taske (Fairfield, OH/Saint Xavier) in the 200-butterfly in 1:55.13, Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, MO/Parkway North) in the in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.12 and McPherson in the 500-free inn 4:50.54.

In addition, S&T got a second place showing from its 400-yard medley relay team of Stuart Mossop (Houston, TX/James E. Taylor), Chavez, Ethan Shih (Papillion, NE/Papillion-LaVista) and Meyer, who posted a time of 3:27.99 and its second 400-freestyle relay quartet of John-Martin Schmidt (Topeka, KS/Hayden), Max Grogan (Parker, CO/Legend), Chris Betts (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch) and Marcin Glebocki (Kansas City, MO/Park Hill) in 3:12.23.

Schmidt had a third place effort in the 1,000-free in 10:04.16, as did Nielsen in the 200-freestyle in 1:45.57 and 200-butterfly in 1:57.52, Glebocki in the 50-free in 21.87 seconds, Mossop in the 200-IM in 2:00.88, Grogan in the 100-freestyle in 48.27 seconds, Dylan Friesz (Round Rock, TX/Hutto) in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.31.

The Miners' second 400-medley relay team of Friesz, Max Middendorf (Hudsonville, MI/Hudsonville), Taske and Glebocki took third in 3:35.13.

The Miners will compete again on Saturday in a five-team meet hosted by Lindenwood in St. Peters, Mo., which will also feature Delta State, Indianapolis and Truman State.  All five teams are ranked among the top 11 in NCAA Division II by CollegeSwimming.com.
