ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T posted the top marks in 13 of the 14 events contested Friday evening and defeated Truman State in a dual meet
174-87 at the S&T Pool.
S&T won the first five events of the night, with victories coming from Kevin McPherson in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:46.63,
Jon Glaser (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.58,
Stuart Mossop (Houston, Texas/James E. Taylor) in the 100-backstroke in 53.32 seconds and
Miguel Chavez (Chihuahua, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) in the 100-breaststroke in 58.67 seconds.
The Miners opened the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay behind the team of
Ethan Shih (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-LaVista), Chavez,
Eirik Nielsen (Stathelle, Norway/Toppidrettsgynmaset) and Glaser, as they posted a time of 3:31.12.
Following the first win of the night for the Bulldogs in the 200-yard butterfly, the Miners got a win from
Jon Anderson (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury Senior) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.82 seconds that headed a sweep of the top three spots in the event.
Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) was second in 21.92 seconds and
John-Martin Schmidt (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) took third in 22.19.
The Miners also went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard backstroke as Shih edged Mossop by 0.02 seconds in a winning time of 2:00.28;
Jared Dachroeden (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) took third in 2:04.45.
Other wins for the Miners on Friday came from Nielsen in the 100-freestyle in 47.43 seconds, Chavez in the 200-breaststroke in 2:08.26, Glaser in the 500-freestyle in 4:48.28 and Shih in the 100-butterfly in 52.72 seconds.
S&T also had the top marks in the last two events of the evening, as Nielsen posted a time of 1:56.17 in 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Anderson, Sponsler, Glaser and
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, La./Ruston) reached the finish line in 1:25.78.
S&T's second 400-yard medley relay team of Mossop,
Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central), Anderson and
Morgan Meyer (Ruston, La./Ruston) finished second in 3:36.30.
Other second place finishes came from Schmidt in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:04.76, Sponsler in the 200-freestyle in 1:46.05 and 100-freestyle in 48.15 seconds, Shih in the 100-backstroke in 53.76 seconds, Larkins in the 100-breaststroke in 1:01.05 and 200-breaststroke in 2:14.89, McPherson in the 500-freestyle in 4:49.05 and Anderson in the 100-butterfly in 53.30 seconds.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, slated to begin Feb. 10 in Crawfordsville, Ind.
