Louisville, Ky. – An early goal proved to be the difference in the Missouri S&T Lady Miners
2-0 loss at Bellarmine on Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Ky. The Knights (7-0, 4-0 GLVC) dominated the stat sheet outshooting the Lady Miners (1-5, 0-4 GLVC) 17-2.
Bellarmine scored in the third minute taking advantage of an S&T foul from near midfield. Jordan Major scored off the ensuing free kick from 45 yards out as the ball bounced over
Carrie Levy (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge )'s head for the game's first goal.
That goal would be the only goal of the first 45 minutes as the Knights finished with a 10-0 advantage in shots but put just two of those on goal.
The Lady Miners had an opportunity at the equalizer in the 58
th minute as
Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley ) sent a shot towards the Bellarmine goal that went wide right.
The Knights added an insurance goal in the 66
th minute as Mary Beth Gorham scored from 21 yards out in the middle of the field inside the right post for her seventh of the season.
S&T's best chance to get on the board came nearly 3:30 later when
Lauren Tolan (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) hit a shot off the crossbar.
Bellarmine finished the game outshooting the Lady Miners 17-2 and had eight shots on goal.
Levy made six saves in goal for S&T.
S&T returns home this Friday to take on Illinois Springfield beginning at 5 p.m.
