EVANSVILLE, Ind. – After dropping its first three games played away from home -- all by one goal -- Missouri S&T's men's soccer team got a one-goal decision on the road to go in its favor Friday night as it pulled out a
3-2 win over Southern Indiana.
Maxi Fuchs (Munich, Germany) scored with just over four minutes remaining in regulation time to break a 2-2 tie to give S&T its second win in succession.  The goal came 12 minutes after USI had tied the contest and had the momentum going in its favor.
The Screaming Eagles (3-2, 1-2 GLVC) scored the first goal of the contest in the 23
rd minute when Josh Weinzapfel scored from close range.  That goal was the first scored by USI against the Miners since 2007.
That lead didn't last long, as
Eduardo Abichabki (Sao Jose do Rio Pardo, Brazil/Colegio Unigrau) answered back with a goal from the top of the box on an assist from
Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) to knot the game at one.  S&T would then take the lead two minutes before the first half ended when
Will McIntyre (Queensland, New Zealand) scored from inside the box from Unnar Ulfarrson to give it a 2-1 lead at the intermission.
USI picked up the pace on the offensive end in the early stages of the second half and eventually tied the score when Weinzapfel got to a rebound of a shot by Kasper Bjoro that S&T goalkeeper
Nick Posey (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) stopped and put it in the net with just over 16 minutes to go.
From that point, the Miner defense locked down the Eagles – who did not have a shot after the goal – and started peppering shots on USI goalkeeper Auston Bruder.  Finally, with 4:17 to go, Fuchs got a pass from
David Murphy (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and hit a shot from the top of the box past Bruder to put the Miners in front to stay.
The Miners (2-3, 2-1 GLVC) outshot the Eagles 13-12 for the game, but USI had seven shots on net to six for the Miners.  Posey was credited with five saves in goal.
Missouri S&T will wrap up its weekend road trip Sunday when it faces Bellarmine in a 2:30 p.m. (Eastern time) contest in Louisville, Ky.
