Rolla, Mo. –Missouri S&T's women's volleyball team begins a busy week with the first of three road matches at seventh ranked Central Missouri on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. The Miners then open Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday traveling to Somers, Wis., to take on Wisconsin-Parkside at 7 p.m. and conclude the trip with a match at Lewis University on Saturday at 3 p.m.
S&T looks to carry momentum from its final two matches in Denver into Warrensburg on Tuesday night. The Miners swept past 18
th ranked Colorado Mesa and then rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Angelo State to win the Bronze Bracket championship at the Premiere Challenge.
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) finished the tournament strong recording 37 kills in the two wins on Saturday and matched her career-high of 20 kills against Angelo State. She also became the third player in school history to surpass 1,000 kills for her career joining Erin Bekebrede (2008-11) and Julie Meyer (2008-09, 2012) on that list.
Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) had 40 kills while
Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) and
Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) had 26 and 24 kills respectively.
Jackie Pyles (White Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) continued the strong start to her season averaging over five digs per set on the weekend and had a season-high 27 digs against Angelo on Saturday evening.
Central Missouri enters play on Tuesday with a record of 8-1 after winning three of four matches this past weekend at the Colorado Premiere Challenge. The Jennies defeated UC San Diego in four sets in their opener before falling to defending national champion Tampa in five sets. The Jens then defeated the two host schools for the tournament on Saturday sweeping past Metropolitan State and beat Regis in four sets.
UCM is hitting almost 30 percent as a team and are averaging 14.5 kills per set while holding its opposition to a .186 hitting percentage. Carly Sojka leads the offense averaging 3.94 kills/set while Maddie Jones is averaging 2.52 kills/set. Kasey Hohlen and Kylie Hohlen are each averaging 2.23 kills per set. Kourtney Thompson runs the offense averaging nearly 10 assists per set while Annie Reilly is averaging 4.74 digs per set.
Wisconsin-Parkside enters this weekend's action having won three straight to improve its record to 5-3. The Rangers went 3-1 this past weekend at the Western Oregon Volleyball Invitational.
As a team, Parkside is averaging nearly 12 kills per set while allowing 11 kills/set to its opposition. It's got an attack percentage of .187 while limiting opponents to .182 hitting percentage. Rebecca Roembke leads the Ranger attack with 3.45 kills/set while Jackie Langer is averaging 2.55 kills/set. Lauren Hickson is distributing an average of 8.27 assists/set and Jessi Mainczyk and Meghan Conley are each averaging 3.21 digs/set.
Lewis enters play this week with a mark of 7-1 after going 4-0 this past weekend at its own invitational. It'll play host to St. Francis (Ill.) in a non-conference match on Wednesday before hosting Drury in its GLVC opener on Friday. Lewis has dropped a total of six sets this season.
Elizabeth Hyland leads a balanced Flyer attack with 3.07 kills per set while Alexis Davito is averaging 2.74 per set and Aly Schneider is dropping in 2.04 per set. McKenna Pierson is their primary setter dishing out 6.70 assists per set while Abby Becker has handed out 4.52 per set. Nicole Yuede leads the way on the defensive side of the ball averaging 5.20 digs/set while Cassidy Parsons is averaging 3.08 digs per set.
