S&T’s late rally comes up short

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners rally from a two goal deficit came up short as it fell to William Jewell 2-1 on Sunday at the S&T Soccer Field. Mikaela Hockenhaupt got the Lady Miners (1-3, 0-2 GLVC) on the board in the 71st minute heading in a cross off the left post from Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) for her first collegiate goal.

The Cardinals (2-0-2, 1-0-1 GLVC) controlled play for a majority of the first half and were able to take advantage of it scoring two goals almost 12 minutes apart. Jewell's first goal came in the 31st minute as Jade Gifford laid the ball off to Alyson Galler who ripped a shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner for her first of the season.

The Cardinals scored again in the 43rd minute as McKenzie Kellog headed home a corner kick for her first goal of the season.
Jewell finished the first 45 minutes with a 9-4 edge in shots and 5-1 in shots on goal.

S&T got on the board halfway through the second half as Wood raced down the right sideline and crossed a ball into the box that Mockenhaupt was able to get enough of a head on to glance it off the left post and in.

The Lady Miners had another chance a couple of minutes later but Lizzie Sanders (Kansas City, Mo./St. Teresa's Academy) shot sailed just left of the goal.

William Jewell finished the contest with 15-8 edge in shots, 7-3 in shots on goal.

Andrea Aller (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley ) led S&T with two shots while Carrie Levy (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge ) made five saves.

The Lady Miners return to action on Friday when they travel to Evansville, Ind., to take on Southern Indiana at 5 p.m.
