SOMERS, Wis. – Missouri S&T couldn't overcome a 22-6 run over the final 10 minutes of the first half in its
73-53 loss at Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday evening.
Brittany Andersen (Saint John, Ind./Andrean ) led S&T with 14 points while
Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) added seven points.
Andersen got the Lady Miners (6-16, 2-12 GLVC) off to a good start scoring seven of their first nine points of the game. They held a 9-5 lead after an Andersen three with 14:26 to go in the opening half.
Parkside (19-4, 12-2 GLVC) responded with a 10-2 run of its own to take the lead for good. It was the Ranger bench doing the damage as they scored all 10 points led by Brittany Fair with five while Tara Knapstein had three and Maddie Johnston added two.
S&T continued to hang tough trailing by just three after a jumper by
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) with 10:11 to go in the frame. That would be the closest it got the rest of the way as Parkside scored 18 of the next 20 points over the next seven minutes in that game deciding run.
The Lady Miners finished the first half shooting 42 percent (10-for-24) from the field and was led in scoring by Andersen with nine points while S. Douvier had four points.
The Rangers were 16-of-31 (52 percent) from the floor, hit three of their 11 attempts from beyond the arc and were 5-of-6 at the foul line. They outrebounded S&T 23-9 and their bench outscored the Lady Miners 25-8. Knapstein led Parkside with nine points while Gaby Bronson added eight points. Fair dropped in seven off the bench.
The Rangers eventually led by as many as 28 after a Knapstein three with 11:18 left to play in the game. S&T would go on to outscore Parkside 23-15 the rest of the way to close the deficit to 20 points.
The Lady Miners shot the ball better in the second half making 12 of their 26 attempts and finished the game shooting 44 percent (22-for-50) from the floor. They were 3-of-7 from beyond the arc and shot 67 percent at the foul line.
Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) finished with eight points and had a game-high five assists.
Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) had three steals in the contest.
The Rangers shot just 12-of-34 from the floor in the second stanza and finished the game shooting 43.1 percent. They were 6-for-21 from the perimeter and shot 69 percent at the foul line. They outrebounded S&T 45-27 and their bench outscored the Lady Miners 47-22. Knapstein led all scorers with 17 points while Bronson finished with 15 and Fair had 10.
S&T is back in action on Saturday afternoon when it takes on the Lewis Flyers at 1 p.m. Lewis had its 23-game winning streak snapped on Thursday in a 75-72 loss against Drury.
