S&T takes on Southwest Baptist in New Year’s Day matinee

Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners begin the second half of their schedule this Friday afternoon traveling to Bolivar, Mo., to take on Southwest Baptist in a New Year's Day matinee at 1 p.m. Both teams ended their first halves with victories and look to build on that to start the second semester.

The Lady Miners (5-4) have won three of its last four contests and look to snap a 16 game losing streak against the Bearcats (6-4). The former Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association rivals met in Rolla last year for the first time in 10 years with SBU winning 81-78 in double overtime. S&T outshot the Bearcats in the contest 41.4 percent to 29.6 percent but couldn't keep the Bearcats off the foul line as they made 25-of-33 at the charity stripe while the Lady Miners went 13-for-16 at the line. Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) led S&T with 16 points in that contest while Kimberly Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) added 10.

The Lady Miners are back in action for the first time since rallying for a 67-64 win over Harris-Stowe on Dec. 20. Elsie Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney High School) led four S&T players in double figures with 15 points while Bria Price added 14, Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled) dropped in 11 and Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) finished with 10. Linda Pagrode (Jaunolaine, Latvia/Riga 99) scored seven of the Lady Miners final nine points in the contest as they rallied from nine down with more than seven minutes left in regulation.

For the season Pierce leads the team in scoring averaging 10.5 points per game while Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ) is contributing 10.0 ppg and Douvier is adding 9.1 points per night. Douvier also leads the team in rebounding with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Southwest Baptist snapped a three-game losing streak with an 82-71 win over top ranked Fort Hays State 82-71 in its final game before the break on Dec. 19. Dilonna Johnson led five Bearcats in double figures with 19 points while Mackenzie Skupa had 17 and Megan Rosenbohm added 15 off the bench. SBU shot 54 percent from the field for the contest while holding the Tigers to just 34.8 percent shooting.

Caylee Richardson leads the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 13.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest. Rosenbohm is averaging 11.7 points per game and Johnson is contributing 10.1 points a game. As a team SBU is shooting 41.1 percent (250-for-609) from the field but has connected on only 48-of-158 attempts from behind the arc.
