Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners led wire-to-wire in an 81-55 exhibition win over Webster on Saturday afternoon at Billy Key Court in Rolla, Mo. The Lady Miners shot 53.1 percent for the contest and had three players finish in double figures led by Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) with 19 points.
S&T dominated the Gorloks in nearly every facet of the contest outscoring them 45-24 in the paint, 32-12 in points off of turnovers and 22-11 in second chance points.
The Lady Miners scored the first six points of the game and led by as many as seven with less than two minutes to play in the opening quarter before Webster scored the final four points of the period to cut the lead to 14-11.
S&T busted the game wide open in the second quarter opening the frame with a 15-4 run to build its largest lead of the half to 14 points after a free throw by Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ). The Gorloks cut the deficit to 11 on the ensuing possession, but a Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) three in transition pushed the margin back to 14.
The Lady Miners shot 50 percent in the opening stanza while holding Webster to just 30 percent shooting. The Gorloks though were 9-of-10 at the foul line while S&T was just 2-for-4.
Webster cut the lead to single digits early in the third quarter before the Lady Miners began to pull away with a 21-12 run building an 18-point cushion by the end of the quarter.
S&T kept the pressure on to start the fourth quarter scoring 11 of the first 13 points of the stanza building a 25-point lead with 3:34 to go in the game. It did the job on both ends of the floor holding Webster scoreless for over five minutes.
The Lady Miners led by as many as 27 in the contest before settling on the 26-point final margin.
S&T finished the game connecting on 34 of its 64 attempts from the floor, went 6-for-18 from beyond the arc and was 7-for-11 at the charity stripe. It outrebounded the Gorloks 37-to-27 and dished out 20 assists in the game. 10 different players scored for the Lady Miners in the win.
Webster finished the game shooting 34 percent (18-for-53) from the floor, was 3-of-18 from the three-point line and 16-for-18 at the foul line. Taylor Lucas was the lone Gorlok in double figures scoring 12 points while Kelsey Miller added seven.
S&T opens up its 2015-16 season this coming Friday hosting Hannibal-LaGrange in a 7 p.m. contest at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
