Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners head to San Antonio, Texas on Thursday to take part in the St. Mary's (Texas) Thanksgiving Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Lady Miners will take on Angelo State on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and then will face the host St. Mary's Rattlers on Saturday evening at 5:15 p.m.
S&T (2-1) looks to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it takes on the Rambelles on Friday. The Lady Miners shot only 36.4 percent from the floor in their last outing against Saginaw Valley and saw its streak of 53 straight games with a three-pointer snapped going 0-for-9 from the perimeter.
Raetchel Gray (Allen, Okla./Byng ) is the lone player averaging double figures in scoring with 11 points per game.
Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia),
Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) and
Joe'l Bland (St. Charles, Mo./Homeschooled) are averaging 9.7, 9.3 and 9.0 ppg respectively.
Bria Pierce (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley North) leads the team in rebounding with seven per game while
Kimberly Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) is averaging 6.7 rebounds per contest. 13 of Runge's 20 rebounds have come on the offensive end.
Angelo State is 2-0 on the young season opening with home wins over Arlington Baptist (108-67) and Western New Mexico (85-47). The Rambelles are averaging 96.5 points per game and have four players averaging double figures led by junior guard Taylor Dorsey with 24.5 points per contest. Senior post player Diamalises Rivera is averaging 11.0 ppg while junior post player Jasmine Prophet and senior guard Brea Mitchell are averaging 10 points per game respectively.
The Belles are shooting nearly 50 percent from the field and have connected on 13 of their 34 attempts from beyond the arc. They're outrebounding opponents by 15 per game and are forcing 20.5 turnovers per contest.
St. Mary's (2-1) on the year will play Lewis-Clark State on Tuesday evening and then host Arkansas-Monticello on Friday. The Rattlers have won two straight since opening the season with a 77-72 loss at Texas Woman's University. St. Mary's picked up an impressive 75-56 win at Texas A&M-Kingsville this past Saturday behind a 21-point, 14 rebound performance from Kiara Etheridge while Dezirae Elias finished with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Snakes controlled the tempo in that contest creating 24 points off of turnovers and scored 14 second chance points.
St. Mary's is averaging 76 points per game while allowing just under 64 per contest. It's shooting 41.2 percent from the floor and has connected on 24-of-64 attempts from downtown. The Rattlers are forcing 18 steals per contest and are outrebounding opponents by 1.4 rebounds per game. Etheridge leads the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 21.3 and 9.7 per contest. Elias is the only player averaging double figures with 15.7 points per contest.
