S&T tips-off season on Friday night against Hannibal-LaGrange

Rolla, Mo. -- The Missouri S&T Lady Miners tip-off its 2015-16 season for real on Friday night hosting Hannibal-LaGrange at 7 p.m. at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. S&T returns eight players from last year's squad and with four new additions looks to start the season off on the right foot.
 
The Lady Miners won their lone exhibition game over Webster 81-55 this past Saturday behind a double-double performance from Jamy Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) who had 19 points and 11 rebounds. Sandra Douvier (Sedgwick, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy) went 7-for-7 from the field and scored 14 points while Kimberly Runge (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) added 14 points as well.
    
S&T finished the game connecting on over 50 percent of its shots attempts from the field and shot over 50 percent in each quarter. After shooting just 25 percent from the perimeter in the opening half the Lady Miners were much better in the second half knocking down half their attempts.
    
S&T held a 37-to-27 edge on the glass, grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and recorded 20 assists in the contest but turned it over 17 times resulting in 12 points for the Gorloks. Defensively, the Lady Miners turned 21 Gorlok turnovers in 32 points.
 
S&T held Webster to just 34 percent shooting in the contest and limited to shooting only 17 percent from beyond the arc. The Gorloks did go to the foul line 18 times and made 16 of those. Taylor Lucas was the lone player in double figures for Webster scoring 12 points while Kelsey Miller added seven.
 
Friday night's contest begins the 42nd season of Lady Miner basketball. S&T is 27-14 in season opening contests and have won 13 straight overall including nine straight at home. Last year, the Lady Miners defeated Henderson State 85-68 in Rolla.
 
Hannibal-LaGrange is 0-3 on the season after dropping a 76-48 decision on Tuesday evening at Central Methodist. The Lady Trojans return five players from last year's squad including two of its top three scorers led by Morgan Winkler who is currently averaging 17.7 per game. Also returning for HLG are Anna Bucher, Sarah Cline, Kenna Greenway and Emma Penn. Friday's contest will count as an exhibition game for Hannibal-LaGrange.
