Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dropped a
2-0 decision against Truman State on Friday night at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. The Bulldogs (8-1-3, 7-0-2 GLVC) outshot the Lady Miners (1-9-1, 0-7-1 GLVC) 12-2 in the contest and 5-1 in shots on goal.
Truman broke a scoreless tie in the 14th minute as Megan Whitehead played the ball ahead to Alexis Heffernan who had gotten behind the defense and scored on a breakaway from the top of the box. That would be the only shot on goal in the first 45 minutes as the game was played primarily in the midfield.
The Bulldogs added to its lead in the 61st minute. After a clear attempt by S&T, Megan Casserly won the ball back and sent one to the endline which Whitehead tracked down. Whitehead then took a shoot near post that
Carrie Levy (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge ) got her hands on but the ball squeezed out and snuck across the goal line.
The Lady Miners had a chance to cut the lead in half less than two minutes later as
Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ) hit a free kick 30 yards from out that Katie Mattingly deflected over the top of the goal for a corner kick.
S&T is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Quincy at 12 p.m. The Lady Miners will honor their nine seniors prior to the beginning of Sunday's contest.
