ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri S&T's men's soccer team picked up a big road win in Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday, getting a pair of second half goals and a shutdown performance by its defensive unit to down Missouri-St. Louis
2-0.
After coming up empty in the first half despite outshooting the Tritons 12-3, the Miners got on the scoreboard just over two minutes into the second half when
Austin Parks (Rolla, Mo./Rolla) headed in a crossing pass from
Matt Kilwin (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade College Prep). The pass sailed over the UMSL defense and Parks, who was on the opposite side of the field, headed it in.
The Miners held the fort on the defensive end, stopping a couple of free kick opportunities near the box and getting a big save from goalkeeper
Nick Posey (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) on Nick Werner's shot with just under 15 minutes to go.
S&T then got an insurance goal from
Martin Klevjer (Trondheim, Norway) as he took a pass from
Felipe Andrade (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), got through an UMSL defender and hit a shot to the far corner to give the Miners a two-goal advantage with 10:43 remaining.
S&T (5-5, 5-3 GLVC) finished with an 18-10 advantage in shots, with nine of the Miner attempts being on goal and also had all seven of the corner kicks in the game. Posey finished with three saves to record his second career shutout.
