Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miners swept past the Quincy Hawks
3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) for its 10
th straight home win on Saturday afternoon at the Bullman M-P Building. S&T improves to 17-8, 8-3 in the GLVC with the win.
The Miners fell behind 5-1 to begin the match before rallying to even the opening set at 10 on a service ace from
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ). S&T stretched its lead to three points multiple times but the Hawks (11-13, 5-6 GLVC) continued to hang tough closing to within a point on two different occasions but never could retake the lead.
Carlie Combs (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) paced the Miners with five kills in the opening set including one at set point to make it 25-21.
S&T used an 8-3 run midway through the second frame to bust open a tight beginning and wouldn't look back cruising to a 25-16 win. The Miners had a hitting percentage of .250 and served three service aces in the middle stanza while holding Quincy to .029 attack percentage. Haslag had five kills in the set while Combs and
Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) had three each.
S&T used another long run during the third frame to break open another tight set that saw seven ties and three lead changes. After the Hawks tied the stanza at 16 on a double block from Bekah Raebel and Emily Lindemulder the Miners rattled off eight straight points setting up match point. S&T struggled to finish it off allowing Quincy to score five straight points, four off of Miner errors, to get within three. That would be the closest the Hawks got though as
Claire Luther (St. Louis, Mo./Lutheran South) knocked home a kill to end the match.
S&T finished the contest with a hitting percentage of .164 registering 40 kills against 19 errors in 128 attacks. Combs had a match high 12 kills while Haslag added eight. Friedlund and Luther finished with seven kills each.
Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) dished out 29 assists while
Jackie Pyles (White Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) dug up 16 attacks.
Quincy was held to a .113 hitting percentage finishing with 29 kills against 15 errors in 124 swings. Raebel had eight kills to lead the Hawks while Jessica Licurgo and Gianna Lincoln had four kills apiece.
Miranda Rodriquez had 14 set assists and Rachel Shores finished with 16 digs.
The Miners are back in action on this coming Friday hosting Bellarmine in a 7 p.m. contest at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
