S&T’s eight match win streak snapped by ninth ranked Hawks

Kansas City, Mo. – Missouri S&T had its eight match winning streak snapped in a 3-0 (23-25, 18-25, 21-25) loss at ninth ranked Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon. The match featured 20 ties and seven lead changes.

The Hawks (18-1, 9-0 GLVC) led for a majority of the first set before the Miners (14-6, 6-3 GLVC) tried to rally late eventually getting to within a point on two different occasions but were unable to take the lead as Rockhurst won the opener 25-23 on a kill from Alyssa Arnold. The Hawks registered 21 kills in the opening frame while S&T had 14.

The Miners scored seven of the first 10 points to begin the set and continued to hold the lead around the midway portion. Rockhurst used a 9-0 run to take control as Morgan Rietzke had three kills in that set deciding run.

S&T led for a majority of the third stanza as well but once again had a hard time putting the Hawks away as they rallied from a three-point deficit to take a four point lead and eventually held on for the four point win.

The Miners finished the match with 41 kills against 15 errors in 127 chances and had a .205 hitting percentage. Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) led S&T with 12 kills while Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) added nine. Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) had 35 assists and Jackie Pyles (White Lake, Mich./West Bloomfield) finished with 18 digs.

Rockhurst had a total of 49 kills against 15 errors in 129 attempts to finish with an attack percentage of .264. Rietzke had a match high 16 kills while Arnold had nine. Whitney Kostal dished out 41 assists while Lauren Poulicek had 18 digs.

The Miners return to action next Friday at the Midwest Region Crossover at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill. The schedule will be announced on Sunday.
