ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T jumped all over College of Faith from the outset Saturday afternoon at Allgood-Bailey Stadium and cruised to a
63-0 win.
The Miners – who were playing Saturday's game as an exhibition contest – ran out to a 28-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play and were never threatened, as the Warriors ran only five plays on S&T's side of the 50-yard line and whose farthest offensive advance for the afternoon was to the Miners' 45.
Spencer Elrod (Lancaster, Calif./Eastside) returned the opening kickoff 58 yards to the Warriors' 25-yard line, setting up
DeSoto Dickson (Florissant, Mo./Trinity Catholic)'s five-yard scoring run three plays later to put S&T on the scoreboard.
D'Luis West (Troup, Texas/Troup) had a five-yard touchdown run and Dickson scored again from the eight, giving the Miners a 20-0 just over five minutes into play.
The Miners recorded a safety after Dickson's second touchdown, when the snap sailed over the head of quarterback Dwayne Clark and into the end zone where he recovered it.
S&T got two more touchdowns before the first quarter ended on seven-yard touchdown runs by
Braxton Graham (Seneca, Mo./Seneca) and West, then the defense scored one when
Bret Curtis (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South) forced a fumble by Horace Carpenter that
Christian Weller (Garland, Texas/Naaman Forest) recovered in the end zone.
Jack Miller (Casa Grande, Ariz./Union),
Kelechi Madubuko (Fort Richardson, Alaska/Eagle River) and
Peter Simpson (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) all scored touchdowns in the second half to close out the scoring.
The Miners finished the contest with 290 yards rushing and 305 total yards – only throwing four passes in the game – while holding the Warriors (0-4) to just 50 total yards. S&T also forced six turnovers that included five interceptions.
Cardell Miller (Kansas City, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara) had two of the interceptions, while
Isaiah Hardy (San Jose, Calif./Sobrato),
Ray Mullen (Palm Springs, Calif./Palm Springs) and
Bo Brooks (Canutillo, Texas/Canutillo) also had picks for the Miners.
Missouri S&T (2-3, 2-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) will return to action next Saturday when its faces Lincoln (1-5, 0-3 GLVC) in a 2 p.m. game in Jefferson City, Mo.
