Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – Missouri S&T's volleyball team had its five-match win streak broken by Rockhurst on Saturday in a
3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 16-25) defeat at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. The Miners struggled to get their offensive going all day hitting just .150 percent which was their lowest since the loss to Indianapolis.
S&T (7-6, 4-2 GLVC) held a two-point lead midway through the set, but Rockhurst (10-1, 5-1 GLVC) went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 20-15 forcing the Miners to use both of their timeouts to try and stop the run. After the second timeout S&T ran off three straight points to close within 20-18 but wouldn't get any closer as the Hawks scored five of the last eight points to take the opener 25-21.
In the second set Rockhurst broke open a close set with a 5-1 run breaking a 5-all tie. The Miners would trim the deficit to 12-10 and that would be the closest they got the rest of the way as the Hawks led by as many as seven in the frame.
The third set was all Rockhurst as it stormed out to an early lead. S&T would tie it, but the Hawks countered with a 6-2 run to take control and the Miners wouldn't closer than three points the rest of the way. Rockhurst stretched its lead to 10 before settling for the nine-point win in the finale.
S&T finished the match with 35 kills against 17 errors in 120 chances and was led by
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) with 11 kills.
Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) added eight while
Claire Friedlund (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South) chipped in with six.
Allie Plunk (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) had 23 assists while
Jackie Pyles (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) had 14 digs.
The Hawks hit .267 percent registering 46 kills against 14 errors in 120 chances. Morgan Rietzke had 11 kills to lead Rockhurst while Alyssa Arnold added eight. Whitney Kostal dished out 35 assists and Rietzke and Arnold had 12 digs apiece.
S&T looks to bounce back on Tuesday when it hosts Drury at 7 p.m. in the finale of the homestand.
