Women’s Soccer travels to Quincy and Truman State for pair of GLVC matches

(Rolla, Mo.) – After picking up its first two wins of the season the Missouri S&T women's soccer team hits the road again for a pair of tough matches this weekend at Quincy and Truman State. The Lady Miners (2-4, 2-2 GLVC) sit in ninth in the conference standings after the first two weekends of play and are just a game out of third place heading into this weekend's action.

S&T picked up a pair of 1-0 wins over Saint Joseph's and Indianapolis on its recent home stand and will look continue its recent play on the upcoming road trip. Sabrina Hostler (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) continues to lead the offense with her three goals while Kendall Fitzpatrick (Houston, Texas/Memorial ), Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla), Julie Bride (Stilwell, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Morgan Henry (Camdenton, Mo./Camdenton) have a goal apiece.

Quincy enters play this weekend having dropped two of its last three contests after starting the season 3-1. The Hawks had their 26-game home unbeaten streak snapped on Sept. 16 in a 2-1 overtime loss against Southwest Baptist. Quincy then went 1-1 last weekend earning a hard fought 1-0 win at Bellarmine last Friday before suffering a 1-0 defeat at McKendree this past Sunday.

The Hawks have scored eight goals on the season while allowing seven; however, they gave up four of those to Grand Valley State in their season opening loss. Ashley Burton leads the Quincy attack with four goals and two assists while Haylye Markway has a pair of goals. Megan Swanson has played every minute in goal with a goals against average of 0.99 and has posted four shutouts.

On Sunday S&T will travel to Kirksville, Mo., for a meeting with the Bulldogs of Truman State. This will be the Lady Miners first trip to Kirksville since Oct. 24, 2004 when both schools where still members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Truman enters play this weekend at 5-2, 3-1 in the GLVC and will play host to Drury on Friday afternoon.

The 'Dogs have outscored their opponents 12-7 through their first seven games and have taken 50 more shots than the opposition. They went 1-1 on the road last weekend earning a 3-0 win at McKendree before having their four match winning streak broken in a 2-0 loss at Bellarmine on Sunday.

Alexis Heffernan is tied for the league lead in goals scored with six and also leads the league in shots, shots per game, points and points per game. She's also tied with Rockhurst's Taylor Skala for the league lead in game-winning goals with four. Nicole Sparks has played a majority of the time in goal with a goals against average of 1.08 and has posted two shutouts.
