Box Score (Indianapolis, Ind.) – After a great offensive showing at Saint Joseph's on Saturday, the Missouri S&T Miners struggled to get its offense going in a
3-0 (13-25, 25-27, 14-25) loss at Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon.
The Greyhounds (3-4, 2-0 GLVC) dominated the opening set recording 18 kills against just one error to hit .447 in the stanza. S&T (2-5, 1-1 GLVC) trailed 11-8 before the 'Hounds went on a 14-5 run to end the frame with the 25-13 win.
The second set was a thriller going back-and-forth the entire way. UIndy held a 17-12 lead only to see the Miners score five straight to tie it at 17-all. The Greyhounds regained the lead and were up 20-19, but S&T countered with three straight points to take a 22-20 advantage. The 'Hounds fought back to tie it only to see the Miners come back and take a 24-22 lead. S&T had two opportunities to tie even the match at a set apiece but were unable too as UIndy scored five of the last six points to take the set 27-25.
The third set began a lot like the first one with it going back-and-forth early. The Miners held an early three-point lead, but saw the Greyhounds answer back scoring six of the next nine points to grab a 14-11 lead. S&T wouldn't get closer than three points the rest of the way as the 'Hounds ended the match on an 11-3 run to win it 25-14.
The Miners finished the match with just 29 kills against 18 errors in 115 attempts for a hitting percentage of .096.
Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) led S&T with seven kills while
Katie McDonald (Orland Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) and
Alison Mueller (Bartelso, Ill./Mater Dei ) had six and five kills respectively.
Alexis White (Auburn, Wash./Riverside) dished out 20 assists while
Jackie Pyles (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) had 10 digs.
Indianapolis finished the match hitting .322 percent registering 52 kills against 14 errors in 118 chances. Hailey Brown led three Greyhounds in double figures with 15 kills. Hannah Bauer and Lynsey Hazelwood had 11 and 10 kills respectively. Meghan Binkerd finished with 42 assists and Arielle Knafel had 17 digs.
The Miners begin a three match homestand on Wednesday hosting Missouri-St. Louis in a non-conference contest at 7 p.m.
