S&T drops two at Bellarmine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Louisville, Ky.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept in its doubleheader at Bellarmine on Sunday dropping the opener 4-3 on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh and then fell in the second game 5-1 at Knights Field in Louisville, Ky.

The opener was scoreless through two innings before the Lady Miners (2-5, 2-2 GLVC) took advantage of an error in the top of third to plate three runs. With two outs Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) and Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) singled to put two on. Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) singled to drive home Davis and an error by the catcher on the play allowed Michaelis and Slemp to score as well.

The Knights (9-5, 2-0 GLVC) tied the game in the home half of the fourth. A double, a walk and a fielder's choice loaded the bases with no one out. Hannah Daunhauer and Olivia Russell delivered run scoring singles to drive in Rachel Fox and Erica Knollman. Two batters later Kelsey Hicks tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh. Hicks led the inning off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kayla Padgett. Melissa Hammer then came into run for Hicks. Ally Foster walked and Fox singled up the middle to load the bases. Knollman ended the game with a single down the right field line.

S&T finished the game with four hits led by Davis who was 4-for-4 in the contest while Kelsi O'Neill (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) delivered two hits as well. Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) suffered the loss allowing four runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work. She struck out three and walked two in the contest.

In the nightcap the Lady Miners jumped on top first for the fourth straight game as Davis reached on an error by the pitcher to start the game. She came around to score on Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield)'s double to right center.

Bellarmine tied the game in the bottom of the first on a lead-off home run by Foster. The Knights took the lead in the second. Daunhauer led off with a double to right center. A sacrifice moved her to third and she scored on Tanner Tevis's single to right.

Bellarmine extended its lead to 3-1 in the fifth on Foster's second round tripper of the game. The Knights added two more in the sixth on a double from Daunhauer and an error to make it 5-1.

S&T was held to just five hits in the nightcap led by Slemp with two. Amber Duncan (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking one in five innings of work.

The Lady Miners return to action on Tuesday when they host Missouri Southern in a non-conference doubleheader at the S&T Softball Field beginning at 1:30 p.m.
