Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners banged out 15 hits in Saturday's doubleheader, but were unable to get timely ones stranding a total of 14 runners on base in its 3-1 and 4-3 losses to Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon. Cailey Baker (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) finished the day driving in all four runs for the Lady Miners.

S&T (3-12, 2-6 GLVC) had a great chance in the opening inning getting a pair of hits and a walk, but Becca Strope (Glen Carbon, Ill./Edwardsville) grounded out to her counterpart to end the inning. Rockhurst (8-14, 3-5 GLVC) broke the scoreless tie in the second when Alex Jacobson hit solo shot to right center with two outs. The Hawks then added two more runs in the fourth when Liz Desloge doubled over Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf)'s head with the bases loaded. Amber Duncan (Centralia, Mo./Centralia) came on in relief of Strope and prevented further damage getting a strikeout and two pop ups to end the threat.

The Lady Miners broke through in the sixth. Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) led off with a single and went to third after a pair of groundouts. She scored on Baker's single back up the middle that deflected off the shortstop's glove. Strope then singled to right putting the tying runs on base, but a groundout out to second ended the threat. S&T had the tying run at the plate in the home half of the seventh, but couldn't score.

S&T banged out seven hits in the opener led by Davis and Kyra Slemp (Roeland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) with two apiece. Baker, Strope and Lori Badalamenti (Wentzville, Mo./Timberland ) had a hit apiece. Strope suffered the loss allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits in three innings of work. She struck out two and didn't walk a batter. Duncan pitched the final four innings allowing three hits while striking out three and walking two.

In the second game on Saturday, the Lady Miners broke on top in the first inning. With two outs Michaelis singled to the shortstop and scored on Baker's double to the gap in right center. Strope got the start again in game two and after allowing two walks in the first she settled down to retire eight hitters in a row before Desloge hit a solo shot to right center to tie the game with one out in the third.

The game remained that way until the bottom of the fifth. With one out Davis singled through the right side and went to third on Michaelis's single through the right side. Michaelis advanced to second on the throw back in. After a pitching change Baker dropped in a single over the shortstop into left center scoring Davis and Michaelis to make it 3-1.

S&T couldn't hold the lead though as Rockhurst got a three-run homer from Jacobson, her second of the day, in the sixth to take the lead. The Lady Miners had a golden opportunity to tie the game in the sixth. Adrienne Kruse (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) led off with a double to left center and went to third on a sacrifice from Olivia Culbertson (Nevada, Mo./Nevada). She was left stranded there though as a groundout to first and a fly out to center ended the inning.

S&T had a chance in the seventh to win the game loading the bases with one out but, Strope lined into a double play on a 3-2 pitch to Jacobson who tagged out Davis before she got back to the bag.

The Lady Miners outhit the Hawks 8-5 in the nightcap. Davis led the way with three hits while Michaelis and Baker had two each. Kruse had the other hit. Strope went the first five-plus innings allowing two runs on two hits with a strikeout. Duncan pitched the final two innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits. She struck out one and didn't walk a batter.

S&T concludes its two-week homestand on Sunday when it hosts William Jewell in a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
