(Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miner softball team continues its two-week, 12-game homestand this weekend with visits from Saint Joseph's College on Friday and the University of Indianapolis on Saturday. The games on both days are scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
S&T (3-6, 2-2 GLVC) kicked off the homestand on Tuesday splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Missouri Southern winning the first game 2-0 and then losing the nightcap by the same score.
The Lady Miners are currently led offensively by
Andi Davis (Blue Springs, Mo./Archbishop O'Hara ) who is hitting .344 on the season while
Shelby Michaelis (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) is hitting .294 and
Savannah Fedorchak (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) is at .286. Collectively S&T has gotten off to a slow start swinging the sticks hitting just .222 through the nine games.
Since a rough opening weekend the pitching staff has allowed 18 runs in the past seven contests, are holding opponents to a .263 batting average, have five complete games and two shutouts. They've struck out 29 hitters while issuing only 10 free passes.
After starting the season dropping six of their first eight contests the Saint Joseph's Pumas have won three of their last four and play a doubleheader at Missouri Southern on Wednesday before heading to Rolla. The Pumas are 3-1 in the GLVC after sweeping Rockhurst 11-7 and 8-4 this past Sunday and then split at William Jewell on Monday.
SJC is hitting .300 as a team and has three players hitting over .400 led by Kalene Davis with a .441 batting average. Kylie Weeks is hitting .432 while Tiffany Gibson is at .405. The Pumas have six players with batting averages north of .300. They're averaging 4.4 runs per contest and have hit seven home runs.
Pitching has been a struggle to this point as they've got an earned run average of 4.90 and opponents are batting .336 against them. The Puma pitchers have given up 11 home runs and 29 extra-base hits but have struck out 47 hitters while walking 25.
Indianapolis comes into Saturday's contest with a 5-5 record and is currently in Florida competing in the Rebel Spring Games. The Greyhounds are scheduled to play St. Cloud State and Concordia-St. Paul on Wednesday and will play Minnesota State and Northern State on Thursday.
Indianapolis is led offensively by the trio of Casey Williamson, Alexa Alfaro and Sydney Russell. All three of them are hitting over .300 with Williamson leading the way with a .500 batting average. Alfaro leads the team with eight runs batted in while Taylor Russell has hit all three of the Greyhound home runs.
In the circle the 'Hounds have an earned run average of 2.48, have three shutouts and holding their opposition to a .208 batting average. Indianapolis pitchers are averaging 8.9 strikeouts per game but yielding 3.6 walks per contest.
